Your knee pain doesn't have to be the end of your season—it's just the beginning of getting stronger.

Knee Pain Is Keeping You From What You Love

Every step hurts. Squatting feels impossible. Running is out of the question. You've been told to rest, ice it, and "give it time"—but you're an athlete. Time on the sidelines is time you'll never get back, and you're watching your teammates, your competition, or your own goals slip further away.

You're Missing Games and Training

Practice is torture. Game day is spent watching from the bench. That tournament you've been training for all year? You might have to sit it out. Every day you're not on the field is a day someone else is getting better while you're stuck rehabbing with exercises that don't seem to be working.

Traditional PT Isn't Built for Athletes

Twenty-minute appointments. Generic exercises on a table. Equipment that has nothing to do with your sport. You're told to "take it easy" when what you really need is someone who understands what it takes to get back to competition-level performance.

You're Scared It'll Never Be the Same

What if your knee never feels stable again? What if you can't cut, jump, or pivot like you used to? The fear of re-injury is almost worse than the pain itself, and you're wondering if you'll ever trust your knee again.

Dr. Tim Puckett, DPT, OCS - Founder of Puckett Physical Therapy and Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist in San Antonio

Dr. Tim Puckett, DPT, OCS (Founder)

Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist | Former Spurs Team Physician PT

Dr. Puckett has been a physical therapist for over 12 years and brings elite-level sports medicine experience directly to San Antonio athletes. With over 6 years working for the Spurs team physicians, he's treated professional athletes at the highest level—and now he's bringing that same standard of care to middle school, high school, and college athletes across the city.

He graduated from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and has focused exclusively on sports rehabilitation ever since. As a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS), Dr. Puckett has completed advanced training and rigorous testing that less than 5% of physical therapists achieve—demonstrating his expertise in treating musculoskeletal injuries.

But what sets Dr. Puckett apart isn't just his credentials. As a husband to Diana and proud father of two athletes, he understands firsthand the frustration parents feel watching their kids struggle with injuries that keep them off the field. He knows what it's like to see potential sidelined by pain, and he's dedicated his career to making sure that doesn't happen.

By the grace of God, Dr. Puckett is also a living kidney donor—a testament to his commitment to serving others that extends far beyond the clinic. He attends church with his family where he continually learns to better love and serve his community.

Dr. Puckett founded Puckett Physical Therapy because he was tired of seeing athletes receive subpar care—20-minute appointments, generic exercises, and advice to "just rest." He built a practice inside an athletic training center where athletes get the time, attention, and sports-specific rehab they deserve. Because athletes shouldn't have to settle for their grandma's PT.

Real stories. Real results.

Here’s what patients say after starting shoulder physical therapy in San Antonio, TX.

"Dr. Puckett is a tremendous physical therapist. Had 2 shoulder surgeries last year and went through months of so called PT after 2nd surgery. Totally wasted my time. Had hardly no strength in shoulder when I started seeing Dr. Puckett."

-Mike Scotten

"I've only been getting PT for a month. The mobility in my shoulder is better than it's been in over 1 year. Dr. Puckett is amazing. We went through a number of exercises until we found the ones that weren't too painful and made huge progress."

- Chad Elseth

""Dr. Garcia has been proactive reaching out to her surgeon & her high school athletic trainer. Puckett PT is comprehensive and attentive to my athlete's needs & I couldn't ask for more. Traditional PT was practically leaving her to her own devices”

-Bobbie Viera

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about athlete-focused knee pain treatment at Puckett Physical Therapy.

How is your approach different from traditional physical therapy?

We aren't your grandma's PT. Traditional clinics give you 20-minute appointments where you're double-booked with other patients and use non-sports specific equipment. At Puckett PT, you get 1-hour sessions with 1-on-1 care from your physical therapist, with full access to gym and sports training equipment. We're located inside an athletic training center specifically designed for athletes who need more than generic rehab.

Do you take insurance?

We operate on an out-of-network model with transparent pricing. This allows us to spend a full hour with you instead of rushing through 20-minute appointments dictated by insurance requirements. Many patients find they can use out-of-network benefits for partial reimbursement, and we're happy to provide documentation for your insurance company.

How long does knee rehab typically take?

It depends on your specific injury and goals. An ACL reconstruction might take 9-12 months to return to full sports, while patellar tendinitis could improve significantly in 6-8 weeks with the right approach. During your full body evaluation, we'll give you a realistic timeline based on your injury and what you're trying to get back to doing. If you're not testing, you're guessing—we track progress objectively.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

Texas is a direct access state, so you don't need a referral to start physical therapy. We offer a free phone consultation with our team to discuss your knee pain and determine if our athlete-focused approach is right for you.

What makes your facility different?

We're located inside an athletic training center equipped with all the tools needed to help you succeed as an athlete. That means full gym access, sports-specific equipment, turf for running mechanics, and everything you need to train the way you compete. Your journey doesn't stop when the pain is gone—we make sure you become even stronger than you were before.
